Early in the 21st century, a small group of scientists from several fallen communist, authoritarian, and totalitarian regimes decided that their revolutions had lost purity of vision. Rejecting the individualism of Western society that was sweeping the glob, they believed that nothing mattered but the advancement of the human race. They saw in the sciences of cybernetics and genetic engineering the potential to increase the abilities of humans immeasurably. In order to achieve their goals, they plotted to seize political power. They never got the chance. Their plans were uncovered and the group arrested. When news reached the West, a journalist labeled it, “The Pro-Evolutionist Plot,” which quickly became in public parlance known as “Provolution.”
Some of Provolution’s adherents apparently managed to escape the arrests, and survived through Twilight. They laid low and perpetuated their ideology, biding their time without anyone being the wiser. They were largely forgotten as the world moved past Twilight and began the new age of exploration.
Late in the 23rd century, Provolution took credit for a terrorist bombing on Tirane. At first it was dismissed as a hoax, but attacks along the Chinese Arm soon made it obvious that Provolution was in existence once again. The group stated its goal as “the destruction of Earth’s power over the colony worlds to prepare for the next step in human evolution.”
